George Moss is a DJ, recording artist and Youth Invasion 11' performer hailing from Grand Rapids, MI. Having performed and toured with the likes of Thousand Foot Krutch, Remedy Drive, KJ-52, Kutless, Red, David Crowder Band and Newsboys, George has performed in front of millions upon millions of fans. At this year's In The Middle of Nowhere Youth Invasion, George performed some of his best rap songs while also taking time to speak to the young crowd at His Place: Cathedral of Faith. His Place Online's The Upper Room was lucky enough to do have George join us for our first edition of the Fast Five interview series.

1. Starting out what were your musical influences?

On my first record, my music was heavily influenced by some of the music I was listening to personally a lot. At that time I was really into smooth jazz like Bony James, Kenny G, David Sanborn, etc. I also was influenced by artists like India Arie, Lauren Hill, and Kirk Franklin.

2. What are your musical influences now?

I draw more of an influence musically now from mainstream popular music more so then music that I actually listen to personally. I'm not a fan of secular music, but I would have to say that my music (not lyrics or message) is influenced by artist like Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, or T.I.. Not because I condone or promote those artists in any way shape or form, but more so because those are the artist I'm in competition with to reach this generation with the gospel.

3. What is the best thing about performing for youth? Worst?

The best thing about performing for youth would be the energy that they have. They don't always have the inhibitions that older audiences have, and they're not afraid to enjoy themselves.

The worst part about it is when energy and hype is all that their is. It's great to have fun, but if they only get the fun without the life changing message, then there is really no point.

4. Favorite place to tour other than Michigan?

I would have to say Australia. It's a totally different vibe when you're over seas. People over there seems to have more appreciation for artists and concerts because they don't get it as often as people do here in the states.

5. The bible story you turn to most often for personal encouragement?

There are so many, but if I had to pick one, I would say it would be the story of when Jesus calmed the storm by speaking to it. Not because of the miracle that Jesus performed, I mean c'mon, He's Jesus. He didn't even have to wake up to do that. Where I find encouragement is the fact that even the disciples were scared of the storm they were facing, even though earlier that same day they saw Jesus feed 5,000+ people with 5 loves a bread and two fish.

I find encouragement that even the disciples were quick to forget how great and powerful our God is, but all we have to do is call on Him, and He can bring us through any storm...even when we're scared.
